Urangan Bowls Club News – 10th February 2025

Championships. Mens B singles games were played last weekend culminating in the final between Pat Rankin and Matt Rundell to be contested this Friday evening. Good luck to you both. Graded events are designed to give newer and less experienced bowlers the chance to compete against their peers without being intimidated by more accomplished players hence the closing date for B pairs was extended till Tues 11th.Feb in an effort to attract additional nominations. Entrants please note draw will be completed on Tuesday afternoon and posted on the notice board immediately with the first round games scheduled for Saturday morning. Mens triples close on 20th.February.

Ladies Championships. Ladies pairs were finalized last week with Jo Dugdell and Linda Kallenberg securing a win over Elaine Savelli and Mel Lohmann in the final.Well done ladies. A singles are currently underway with games to be played this week.

Mixed 4 a Side Competition. Sides played pairs games last week with a couple of sides gaining a bit of a break on the rest of the field. A change of next weeks format back to singles/triples has been made due to a reduction in rink availability the following week when fours will be played.

Tuesday open pairs next week – $646-

Quarterly Meeting Sunday 16th.Feb 9.30am. Items on the agenda include 1. BQ amalgamation proposals- 2. how we can maximize club usage but keep expenditure down,- 3.forward planning for future development. As we are all aware the average age of members is continuing to increase and a concerted effort is required to attract more 40-60 year olds to our sport to ensure its future. Come along and provide your input.

Friday arvo/evening- Club day, Start off with a twilight game of bowls [ 2 games of 3 bowl pairs] from 2.30 pm. Sheet in the breezeway to nominate your pair with prizes subject to numbers.Stay on to watch some championship games and have a drink at ‘happy hour’ prices.Try a tasty and reasonably priced meal from Ashley in the bistro which opens at

5.30. Test your luck in our raffle drawn around 6.15 and be here to claim the members draw if your membership number comes out. Relax with family and friends with live music most weeks or have a play on the pokies if you’re that way inclined.

Still raining and flooding in the North of the State and our thoughts are with them. Stay safe, well and hydrated during the hot weather. Good Bowling everyone !!!
