A public meeting held back in 1974 decided to form a new bowls club and so the Urangan Bowls Club was founded in 1975 and established on land generously donated by the first club president, Roy Robb. A lot of hard work by the founding members was carried out and Roy Robb rolled the first bowl at the club on 3rd December 1977.

A Ladies Bowls Club was also formed during the construction stage at the instigation of Roy Robb in March 1977. It wasn’t long before it was decided a second green was needed due to the increase in membership as the club grew. Additional land was purchased and installation of the second green and extensions to the clubhouse commenced. Ron (Skinny) Stanton was President when the clubhouse extensions were opened in 1983 with the second green coming into action during 1982. The club facilities and greens soon became known as some of the finest in the area.

The club kept gathering momentum with a number of players, both men and ladies, going onto represent the District and compete in State Titles. Both men and ladies took out a number of pennant titles over the years as evidenced by the pennant flags displayed in the Clubhouse.

In 1995 the men’s and ladies clubs amalgamated to form a single entity known as the Urangan Bowls Club Inc. A Management Committee was formed to run the business and financial affairs of the club while the men’s and ladies sections attended to the running of bowls both social and competitions. Both the men’s and ladies committees were represented on the Management Committee and that remains the case today. The first Chairperson was Roy Bowd.

The club continued to prosper and in 2000, under the chairmanship of Allan Harrold, it was decided that a state of the art fully covered bowling green should be constructed. A funding submission for this project was meticulously prepared by Allan Harrold and after an initial rejection was subsequently approved by the government with a grant of $300,000 towards the cost. The benefits of an all-weather roof has proved itself over the years with the first covered green being opened in June 2002. Under the leadership of chairperson Dudley Humphris, it was decided to install a second covered green and that was officially opened in April 2008. There was no government funding for the second undercover green, but the membership rallied round and got the work done. The club was now established as one of the best in the District with excellent facilities.

Over the relatively short history of the club, it has established itself well and a lot of credit for this should be given to those early members who had the foresight, courage and tenacity to carry out their dreams. The club now thrives on social and competitive bowls and encourages junior bowlers, and many juniors have progressed through our club to become very competitive bowlers competing at State level. Barefoot bowls also forms part of the club’s social bowls with many organisations choosing to hold barefoot bowls events at the club.
